An opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join our busy team within Ophthalmology Day Surgery Unit, as part of Theatre Services. It will be possible to work full time or part time hours. This Vacancy is available for both novice and experienced Support Workers as specific in house training will be provided. This is a permanent post.

This post will involve assisting the registered practitioner in looking after adult and paediatric patients before, during and after their operation. The post will involve setting up and moving lots of different types of equipment including heavy theatre trays and patients on trolleys to ensure an effective and efficient service for patients. This post will involve circulating duties as well as setting up Theatres for both elective and some emergency procedures including but not limited to moving different types of equipment, instrument trays and patients on wheelchairs and trolleys. This is a physically and mentally demanding job and the successful candidate will have to prove they can be adaptable to keep up with this ever changing environment.

The Vacancy is based in The Princess of Wales Hospital Ophthalmology Day Surgery Unit and the successful candidate will be required to rotate to Main Theatre and Day Surgery Unit as well as work across other hospitals within the Health Board when service demands require. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake training programmes in conjunction with the CTMUHB and Health Care Support Workers Framework.

This isn’t ‘fluency’, just Speaking and Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means being able to communicate in Welsh during routine clinical situations, such as welcoming patients, discussing straightforward aspects of their care and answering routine questions.
