If you are a registered Occupational Therapist with experience and a specialist interest in Hand Therapy, then an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Occupational Therapy Specialist Hand Therapy Team. Working across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, we are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to provide specialist clinical assessment, education, splinting and rehabilitation services to our upper limb, post-surgery and trauma patients within the local area.

The post holder will hold a clinical caseload whilst working with the team to drive the service forward through ongoing developments, improvements, audits and research.

Main duties of the job

Acting within their professional boundaries, the post holder will hold a defined caseload, providing specialist assessment and rehabilitation to people referred to the Specialist Hand Therapy Team. They will use the evidence base to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised treatment programmes. This will include providing education, splinting and rehabilitation to patients with a range of upper limb conditions, including post-surgery and trauma patients. The post holder will demonstrate safe clinical decision making and maintain up to date with recent evidence-based literature.

Welsh Skills Desirable:

This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered member of the Health Professional Council
  • Post graduate training/ accreditation in fieldwork education.
  • Membership of professional body
  • Post graduate training/ accreditation in Hand Therapy

Experience

  • Post graduate clinical experience in area of Hand therapy.
  • Experience of service delivery in a variety of different clinical physical health settings
  • Experience of effective one-to-one interactions
  • Experience of research and audit
  • Experience of applying professional theory to practice
  • Experience of delivering training and education to support staff.
  • Experience of supervision
  • Awareness of current professional issues
  • Ability to use reflective practice based on current evidence.
  • Experience of advising/teaching other professions
  • Experience in an acute setting and/or the community.
  • Experience of cross organisational working.

Skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure within a multi/inter disciplinary team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B1) are Desirable for this Role.
