The post-holder will join the enthusiastic clinical team across Cwm Taf Morgannwg as a Specialty Doctor covering Stroke Medicine. The Stroke Unit is based at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital but may be placed at any of our three district general hospitals in the future. Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting ward rounds in the Acute Stroke Unit.
  • Supervising the resident medical team and providing advice and support to nursing staff.
  • Reviewing patients presenting with signs of an acute stroke in the Emergency Department and advising on admission to the stroke unit in consultation with the stroke consultant of the day.
  • Attending stroke and TIA clinics.
  • Participating in clinical/medical audit, teaching and research within the stroke service and general medical services across the base hospital.
  • Providing coverage for the clinical team on a CESR route or a specialist grade post. The post has no on-call commitment, but the post-holder may pursue a registrar role or join the 'Out of Hours Stroke' rota.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Full GMC Registration MBBCh or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years post-graduate, of which at least 3 are in medical specialities.
  • Experience of stroke medicine at IMT or Registrar level.

Desirable:

  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Wide experience of medical specialities.

Audit & Research:

  • Evidence of involvement with clinical audit and quality improvement.
  • Presentation at national or regional meetings.
  • Formal training in quality improvement.
