Job Summary

To be responsible to the Senior Engineering Surveyor and Senior Project Manager for the provision of all surveying services to the project.

  • Main Responsibilities
  • Discharge responsibilities for Health and Safety as set out in the Canary Wharf Group Health Safety and Welfare manual also the Canary Wharf Group Construction Health and Safety Plan both in respect of the package and integration of the overall project.
  • Maintain the global CWG survey control network across all projects.
  • Provide and maintain Horizontal Control on all floors of a project for use by all contractors and the department, throughout all stages of construction.
  • Provide and maintain Vertical Control on all floors of a project for use by all contractors and the department, throughout all stages of construction.
  • Be responsible for, and drive, the teams Laser Scanning capabilities and knowledge sharing, both with the fieldwork data collection and the processing of scanned data.
  • Monitor basement slab and/or ground floor slab for deflection and settlement.
  • Monitor structures for differential vertical shortening between building core and outer envelope.
  • Monitor existing adjacent structures for deflection/deformation associated with construction works.
  • Carry out as-built checks throughout shell and core construction and as required during fit-out phase.
  • Provide topographical surveys for use by Development Team, Designers and Architects to interface existing features with projects.
  • Provide Acad/drawing services to project team to aid project coordination and interface.
  • Register and manage all incoming survey requests.
  • Check computations and compile jobs prior to approval and issue.
  • Oversee calibration of survey equipment and maintain calibration registers
  • Ensure survey equipment and supplies are checked and orders placed as necessary.
  • To liaise with and maintain a good working relationship with other members of staff and external parties.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by Senior Management.
  • Provide training and advice to the Assistant Engineering Surveyors.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • The candidate must have 2/3 years’ experience within the survey, engineering and construction industry.
  • The candidate needs to have Laser Scanning knowledge and capabilities, both with the fieldwork data collection and the processing of scanned data.
  • Can demonstrate proven Engineering experience, gained from working on major construction projects as an Engineering Surveyor in a position of responsibility.
  • Be in possession of a relevant formal qualification e. g. Bachelor of Surveying or Engineering degree, HND (as a minimum).
  • Be a member of a Professional Surveying Institution or be actively working towards membership. e. g. CICES, RICS.
  • Possess a practical, proactive, and problem-solving approach to surveying in difficult conditions, and under tight time frames.
  • Have good communication skills and be able to communicate and influence behaviours at all levels.
  • Must be a team player and be able to work well with the assigned project team, trade contractors and members of the survey department.
  • Have the ability to develop and implement surveying related systems and procedures where required.
  • Be willing to undertake training and a personal development program.
  • Be able to train others where knowledge and skills allow.
  • Be computer literate and have good administration skills.
  • Be competent in assessing and commenting on the adequacy of Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
