Location: Sizewell C, Leiston, Suffolk (5 days a week onsite)

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Holiday: 28 days + bank holidays (rising to 30 after 5 years)

Pension: Up to 15% employer contribution

Bonus: 5%

About the Role

As a Pre-Construction Fire Safety Manager, you will play a pivotal role in embedding fire safety into the earliest stages of the Sizewell C project. Your work will ensure that fire safety principles are fully integrated into design, planning, and construction sequencing, supporting safe evacuation, property protection, and effective operational response. Working closely with contractors, stakeholders, and the wider Pre-Construction Planning Team, you will help deliver the site-wide fire safety strategy and contribute to a strong, positive fire safety culture across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review pre-construction designs for compliance with UK fire safety legislation.
  • Identify and communicate fire-related risks early in the planning and construction phases.
  • Provide constructability, maintainability, and operability insights to support safe project delivery.
  • Manage fire-related project activities from concept through to delivery, tracking progress against programme milestones.
  • Ensure the quality and consistency of fire engineering documentation produced by third parties.
  • Mentor and support team members, contributing to training, knowledge sharing, and succession planning.
  • Capture and apply lessons learned from major projects such as Hinkley Point C.
  • Promote innovation and best practice across the fire safety function.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across SZC, EDF, HPC, and the wider industry.
  • Ability to analyse complex technical information and identify trends, risks, and issues.
  • Forward-thinking mindset with the ability to anticipate emerging fire risks.
  • Clear communicator capable of explaining complex fire safety concepts in multiple formats.
  • Skilled at engaging others on technical matters and maintaining interest and understanding.
  • Ability to share knowledge and build competence in others.
  • Solid working knowledge of national fire safety legislation and standards.
  • Familiarity with CDM Regulations and their application to fire safety.
  • Experience in major engineering or construction projects.
  • Previous experience as a Fire Safety Inspecting Officer, ideally with building regulations consultation experience.
  • Experience working within a fire safety advisory function on large projects.
  • Ability to influence senior leaders and project teams.
  • Experience contributing to or implementing fire safety strategies in complex, high-risk environments.
  • Understanding of large-scale organisational processes, plant operations, and site activities.

Qualifications

  • Level 5 Diploma in Fire Engineering Design (preferred).
  • NEBOSH Fire Risk Assessment Certificate or equivalent.
  • Membership of the Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional competence through active membership in a recognised fire safety organisation.
  • Experience in construction environments.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or European equivalent.
  • Degree in Fire Engineering or related discipline (BSc, BEng) desirable but not essential.
