Senior Land Surveyor Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C.
As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low‑carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the Enabling and Earthwork Section.
What will you do?
- Establish, manage, and maintain primary and secondary control networks to support the full lifecycle of the project.
- Plan and execute high‑precision setting out for key civil works including earthworks, drainage, utilities, roads, bridges, and structural elements.
- Perform and oversee as‑built surveys, ensuring deliverables meet client and design team requirements.
- Ensure survey data is collected, processed, and recorded accurately, and deliverables are formatted in line with project specifications.
- Collaborate with engineers and construction teams to ensure the smooth integration of survey outputs with design intent.
- Maintain and manage survey equipment, including calibration records and fault reports.
- Manage the integration and maintenance of machine control systems (Trimble, Leica, Topcon), including data prep and model uploads to plant equipment.
- Lead UAV (drone) surveying operations for progress monitoring, aerial mapping, and volumetric calculations.
- Support engineering teams with precise and timely setting out for earthworks, roads, drainage, structures, and foundations.
- Oversee the preparation, checking, and submission of all survey outputs (CAD drawings, 3D models, as‑builts, etc.).
- Use and manage data within relevant survey and CAD software such as Leica Captivate, Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, LSS, or similar.
- Prepare detailed daily records, progress reports, and non‑conformance documentation where applicable.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure robust quality control measures are adhered and implemented.
- Assist with the implementation of quality assurance procedures, including verification, validation, and compliance checks.
- Produce survey quality deliverables in accordance with design tolerances.
- Troubleshoot discrepancies between design models and site conditions, proposing corrective actions where necessary.
HSE & Training:
- Adhere to site RAMS & Survey procedures.
- Mentor and train junior survey staff, promoting continuous technical and professional development.
- Facilitate daily briefings and H&S requirements to surveyors.
What are we looking for?
Qualifications & Education:
- HND/Degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or a related discipline.
- Specialist survey and monitoring software.
- Desirable: Membership with a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, ICES, CIHT).
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience working in a site‑based surveying role on large civil engineering projects (e.g. buildings, highways, rail, earthworks, infrastructure).
- Proven track record in civil engineering and earthworks projects.
- Demonstrable experience in survey control, setting out, as‑built documentation, and QA procedures.
- Clear understanding of construction tolerances, specifications, and survey best practices.
- Excellent communication and teamworking skills.

- Proficient in using a range of survey equipment including GNSS, Total Stations, digital levels, and laser scanners (Leica/Trimble preferred).
- Strong working knowledge of relevant software: AutoCAD Civil 3D, LSS, Trimble Business Center, Leica Captivate, or similar.
- Clear understanding of construction tolerances, specifications, and survey best practices.
