What will you do?
- Define the requirements and scope of specific packages of design work and ensure closure of requirements through to commissioning and handover.
- Champion ‘Safe by Design’ with the design supply chain, to maximise the opportunity to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of all those engaged in and impacted by the project.
- Operate within the processes and procedures of the civils programme.
- Management and reporting of design delivery performance for time, cost, quality and other performance objectives as required from the supply chain, including the application of robust change management.
- Interface with all Internal civils programme functions to ensure project and statutory requirements are understood and implemented and recognised in the design.
- Ensure that third party requirements and approvals required during the design stage are discharged appropriately.
- Engage with other civils programme functions including commercial, procurement, project controls, construction delivery, H, S&W etc. to ensure that technical issues are suitably understood and recognised.
- Hold regular collaborative meetings with the designers and wider teams to: review and share problems/issues, promote innovative thinking, capture lessons learnt/best practice, provide technical support and ensure consistency of design.
- Challenge the designers’ proposals with a view to de-risking technical solutions, to promote and facilitate emergence of value engineering solutions, leading to reductions of quantities, costs and optimisation of the construction programme.
- Coordinate the inputs and interfaces of the Technical Assurance Team to ensure a Verified, Validated and Configured design Dimensions.
What are we looking for?
Knowledge & Skills Essential
- Competent technical knowledge and experience of Geotechnical design.
- Ability (and experience) to lead and manage multi-disciplinary/organisation design teams.
- Ability to communicate and engage effectively at a range of levels: Management Team, client departments, design delivery teams, third party authorisers etc.
- In depth understanding of project scheduling, commercial arrangements, and budget control.
- Clear understanding of design and engineering interfaces with: construction teams, commissioning teams, supply chain and third parties.
Qualifications & Experience Essential
- Degree Level qualified and/or 5-10 years’ experience in this specific field.
Desirable
- Professional accreditation and/or Geotechnical sector specific MSc degree.
