Help Shape the UK’s Energy Future. Fabrication Engineer Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C.

As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the Marine and Tunnels Section.

What will you do?

The Fabrication Engineer will support the day-to-day management and oversight of fabrication activities associated with structural steel and mechanical fabrication packages within the Sizewell C Marine & Tunnels programme. Working as part of the Marine & Tunnels Fabrication Delivery Team, the role will be predominantly based at supplier manufacturing facilities (primarily within the UK) to provide day-to-day oversight of fabrication activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, to the required quality standards and in accordance with the agreed programme and project requirements. Reporting to the Package Manager, the Fabrication Engineer will work closely with the fabricator, CWA engineering and quality teams, independent assurance bodies and other project stakeholders. The role will provide technical and delivery support during manufacture, monitor progress and quality compliance, and support the timely resolution of engineering and production issues. This is a permanent position within the Sizewell C Civil Works Alliance.

What are we looking for?

  • Essential
    • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Welding Engineering or a related discipline.
    • Experience in fabrication, manufacturing engineering or heavy engineering environments.
    • Good understanding of structural steel fabrication, welding and manufacturing processes.
    • Experience working with fabrication quality systems and inspection requirements.
    • Good understanding of welding procedures, material certification and manufacturing documentation.
    • Experience reviewing or working with ITPs and quality documentation.
    • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
    • Experience working with suppliers or manufacturing organisations.
    • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
    • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
    • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
    • Willingness to travel and work predominantly from supplier manufacturing facilities.
  • Desirable
    • Experience within the nuclear, offshore, marine, defence or major infrastructure sectors.
    • Knowledge of nuclear quality requirements.
    • Familiarity with NEC contracts.
    • Understanding of fabrication standards including:
      • ISO 3834
      • EN 1090
      • ISO 9606
      • ISO 15614
      • BS EN 10204
    • CSWIP Welding Inspector qualification.
    • NACE or ICorr coating inspection qualification.
    • Internal Auditor qualification.
    • Project management qualification or relevant project delivery training.
    • Knowledge of project controls and progress reporting.
    • Experience working with independent inspection bodies (e.g. DNV, Lloyd's Register, TÜV).
