Help Shape the UK’s Energy Future

As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years.

This role will be within the Enabling and Earthwork Section.

What will you do?

The Sizewell C (SZC) project requires an Engineering Manager to lead, manage and coordinate construction engineering for the Earthworks Portion during the ECI and Construction phases. The role is targeted at enabling construction teams to deliver successfully on site, commencing in 2024. The areas of focus are:

  • Methods Engineering – integrate design and construction methods through the technical lifecycle
  • Contractor’s Design – integration of Contractor’s Temporary Works with the Permanent Works
  • Digital Engineering – pre-construction digital rehearsals and data capture during construction
  • Right First Time construction engineering – quality, safety, sustainability

Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions

  • Definition of methods alongside design development, to ensure works are safe, sustainable and economic to build. Embed the principles of Method Led and Modern Methods of construction.
  • Developing technical solutions that take cognisance of the site constraints, including legal constraints defined in the DCO.
  • Understand the consenting requirements and engagement with the client and external bodies where necessary for timely submission and approval of consents.
  • Definition of Temporary Works, defining requirements and managing delivery of TW designs, including all necessary approvals.
  • Define requirements jointly with the SZC designers for any Contractor Design of the Permanent works, develop Scope and RACI documents. Source and manage Contractor Design resources.
  • Understand Lessons learnt from HPC (First of a Kind) to transfer to SZC (Next of a Kind), working with the Sizewell C client and CWA to embed the learning.
  • Understand the Assurance Requirements of the highly regulated nuclear environment and incorporate into the definition of the works, programme and price.
  • Oversight of site construction engineering including quality, materials testing, surveying.

  • Good understanding of geotechnical engineering and soil behaviour

  • Good Digital skills, including use of BIM

  • Problem solving skills, creative thinking
  • Teamwork

Desirable

  • Experience in earthworks
  • Temporary works experience
  • Some knowledge of industrial health and safety legislation and personal safety
  • Basic CAD skills

Qualifications & Experience

  • Civil engineering degree or equivalent

Desirable

  • Chartered or working towards chartership (next 1-2 years)
