Help Shape the UK’s Energy Future. Data Engineer Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C.

As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the CWA Wide Section.

What will you do?

The Data Engineer will play a key role in the design, development, and operation of CWA's enterprise data platform. Working within an Agile delivery environment, the successful candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining scalable, secure, and reliable data pipelines that ingest data from multiple source systems into our Azure Data Factory and onward into the CWA data platform hosted in Databricks. The role will work closely with the Data Analytics Team, Data Modellers, Business Stakeholders and source system owners to ensure data is delivered in a trusted, governed and consumable format that enables reporting, analytics, operational insights and future AI capabilities. The Data Engineer will contribute to the continuous improvement of CWA's data platform, ensuring solutions are robust, performant, cost-effective and aligned to enterprise architecture, security and governance standards.

Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions

  • Deliver Data Integration and Data Engineering Services
    • Design, develop and maintain robust data pipelines that support CWA's data platform.
    • Ensure data is reliably ingested from source systems into Azure Data Factory and Azure Databricks.
    • Deliver scalable, secure and reusable data engineering solutions that meet business requirements.
  • Ensure Data Quality and Integrity
    • Implement controls to improve data accuracy, completeness and consistency.
    • Monitor data pipelines and resolve data quality issues.
    • Support the development of trusted data products for reporting, analytics and AI use cases.
  • Support Agile Delivery
    • Contribute to Agile planning, sprint delivery and continuous improvement activities.
    • Provide accurate estimations and technical input to work packages.
    • Deliver assigned backlog items in line with agreed priorities and timelines.
  • Collaborate with Business and Analytics Teams
    • Work closely with Data Analysts and business stakeholders to understand requirements.
    • Support testing, validation and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
    • Ensure delivered data products meet business needs and acceptance criteria.
  • Maintain Data Platform Standards
    • Apply data governance, security and architecture standards.
    • Support documentation, metadata management and lineage requirements.
    • Contribute to platform performance, reliability and operational support.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement and Innovation
    • Identify opportunities to automate and optimise data processes.
    • Promote best practice in data engineering, DevOps and platform operations.
    • Contribute to the development of the CWA Data & AI capability.
