Help shape the UK's energy future with a Senior Commercial Manager opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), supporting Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing commercial input to Value Engineering reviews for different forms of construction.
  • Managing the feedback of commercial data to Planning and Estimating.
  • Maximising digital opportunities.
  • Reviewing tenders and cost data.
  • Managing the preparation of Target Cost for a project.
  • Co-ordinating the commercial team to ensure programme issues are identified and actioned.
  • Managing the preparation and review of Earned Value Management.
  • Preparing the monthly CVR and associated commercial reports.
  • Reporting and explaining the commercial progress to senior divisional staff.
  • Leading commercial aspects with customers and stakeholders.
  • Establishing client supply chain requirements and advising on alternative forms of contract and procurement arrangements.
  • Understanding disputes resolution including options, structure, as well as knowledge of the SCL Protocol.
  • Applying legislation and liaising with legal experts.
  • Preparing estimates and tender submissions including the interpretation of specifications and preambles.
  • Representing the financial and contractual interests to your employer and/or client in progress meetings.
  • Co-ordinating buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply chain management, procurement techniques, estimating, and surveying functions.
  • Managing and reporting of Commercial Risk and Opportunity Management of disallowed cost.
  • Experience in the recruitment and retention of staff.
  • Onboarding and induction of staff ensuring commercial induction packs are drawn up and delivered.
  • Managing and overseeing team PDRs and identifying and targeting the needs of individuals.
  • Overseeing and giving advice on training and development including professional development.
  • Determining project commercial staff requirements and liaising with HR for recruitment including temporary staff.
  • Interviewing staff for lesser grades.
  • Involvement with schools and universities to promote the construction industry and to support sponsored students.
  • Liaising with all parties to ensure task/project remains on plan.

What are we looking for?

Essential:

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent.
  • Member or Fellow of RICS, ICES or CIOB.
