Help shape the UK's energy future with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), supporting Sizewell C. As part of the CWA, you will support the building of Sizewell C, a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and playing a key role in our energy future.
This role will be within the Marine and Tunnels Section.
What will you do?
The Senior Fabrication Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the fabrication activities associated with major structural steel and mechanical fabrication packages within the Sizewell C Marine & Tunnels programme. Working as part of the Marine & Tunnels Fabrication Delivery Team, the role will be predominantly based at supplier manufacturing facilities (primarily within the UK) to provide continuous oversight of fabrication activities, ensuring works are delivered safely, to the required quality standards, in accordance with programme and contractual requirements. Reporting to the Package Manager, the Senior Fabrication Engineer will act as the primary engineering and delivery interface between the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), the fabricator, independent assurance bodies and the wider project team. The role provides technical leadership during manufacture while driving progress, managing quality compliance and ensuring timely resolution of engineering and production issues.
What are we looking for?
- Essential Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Welding Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience managing complex fabrication or heavy engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, welding and manufacturing processes.
- Experience working with fabrication quality systems and inspection requirements.
- Good understanding of welding procedures, material certification and manufacturing documentation.
- Experience reviewing ITPs and quality documentation.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience working with suppliers and managing manufacturing progress.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
- Willingness to travel and work predominantly from supplier manufacturing facilities.
Desirable
- Experience within the nuclear, offshore, marine, defence or major infrastructure sectors.
- Knowledge of nuclear quality requirements.
- Familiarity with NEC contracts.
- Understanding of fabrication standards including: ISO 3834, EN 1090, ISO 9606, ISO 15614, BS EN 10204.
- CSWIP Welding Inspector qualification.
- NACE or ICorr coating inspection qualification.
- Internal Auditor qualification.
- Project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent).
- Knowledge of Earned Value Management and project controls.
- Experience working with independent inspection bodies (e.g. DNV, Lloyd's Register, TV).
