Help Shape the UKs Energy Future Assistant Materials Engineer Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C. As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years.
This role will be within the Marine and Tunnels Section.
What will you do?
The purpose of the role is:
- To provide support to the materials engineering and laboratory teams for the marine and tunnels package.
- Assist in coordinating trials and production of deliverables for various works packages.
- Assist in ongoing testing and quality management activities, execution of demonstration areas and management of laboratory testing services.
- Provide technical support to the project team, including specialist materials engineering input and support the delivery of value engineering opportunities.
- Support project delivery teams, providing expert technical support in materials engineering design, assurance and management.
- Provide materials testing services during project delivery.
- Develop and maintain relationships with relevant materials engineering consultants and suppliers.
- Support the materials team in materials risk management, identifying and recording best practices and areas for improvement on contracts.
- Maintain personal expertise and knowledge to ensure that the materials team is at the forefront of the industry.
- Assist in audits of construction and materials including testing to ensure all meet project specifications and relevant standards.
- Resolve material technical issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensure procedures and quality systems are applied.
- Be aware of Designers obligations of CDM.
- Mentor members of the team to deliver high performance and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Assist in challenging specifications/proposals and re-engineering to develop alternative value engineered proposals.
- Provide procurement strategies for both the re-use, purchase and disposal of materials.
What are we looking for?
Essential
- Professional experience in Civil/Structural/Materials Engineering.
- Knowledge of framework procurement principles.
- Good interpersonal/communication skills.
- Ability to collect, manage and present data in a clear manner.
Desirable
- Knowledge of construction materials (Concrete, Grout).
- Professionally qualified (or working towards) (FGS, MICE).
- Desire for continuous improvement and development.
- Quick learner.
- Well organised.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Relevant experience in Civil/Structural/materials engineering.
- CSCS Card holder.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Degree educated.
- Experience working within a laboratory environment or civil engineering project.
