The Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Commercial Manager to lead the commercial performance and strategic growth of a nationwide hazardous waste transfer and treatment network.

This is a senior commercial leadership position responsible for developing and implementing the commercial strategy across hazardous waste transfer stations and packaged waste treatment services.

Working closely with operational, technical and sales teams, you will identify new market opportunities, strengthen existing customer relationships and drive sustainable revenue growth across the business.

The successful candidate will have significant experience within the hazardous waste industry, with a strong understanding of hazardous waste streams, treatment routes, transfer station operations, pricing strategies and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Leadership

  • Develop and deliver the commercial strategy for hazardous waste transfer stations and packaged waste treatment services across the UK.
  • Drive profitable growth through new business development, strategic account management and expansion of existing customer relationships.
  • Lead the commercial direction for hazardous waste services, ensuring business objectives, revenue targets and profitability are achieved.
  • Identify market trends, new waste streams and commercial opportunities to strengthen the company's position within the hazardous waste sector.

Business Development & Customer Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers across industrial, manufacturing, chemical, utilities and environmental sectors.
  • Lead customer meetings and presentations, providing commercially and technically robust hazardous waste solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to increase hazardous waste volumes across existing customer accounts.
  • Generate new business opportunities through direct customer engagement, networking and market development.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide commercial leadership and support to the wider sales team, helping to identify and secure hazardous waste opportunities.
  • Coach Business Development Managers and Account Managers on hazardous waste treatment capabilities, pricing strategies and commercial opportunities.
  • Work closely with Operations, Technical, Compliance, Logistics and Bid Management teams to ensure successful mobilisation and delivery of new contracts.
  • Build effective working relationships across all business functions to deliver integrated hazardous waste solutions.

Commercial Management

  • Develop pricing strategies for hazardous and packaged waste services in collaboration with operational teams.
  • Lead regular commercial pricing reviews to ensure competitiveness while protecting profitability.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements and contracts with new and existing customers.
  • Support tender submissions, commercial proposals and contract negotiations for major opportunities.
  • Reporting & Performance Management

Produce and analyse commercial performance reports including

  • Sales pipeline and forecasting
  • Revenue and margin performance
  • Hazardous waste volumes and treatment trends
  • Key account development
  • Opportunity pipeline management
  • Market intelligence and competitor analysis

Provide regular reporting and recommendations to senior management to support strategic decision-making and continued commercial growth.

Person Specification

To be successful in this role, you will have

  • Extensive commercial experience within the hazardous waste management industry.
  • A proven track record of delivering commercial growth, developing strategic customer relationships and winning new business.
  • Strong understanding of hazardous waste legislation, waste classification, treatment processes and transfer station operations.
  • Experience developing commercial strategies, pricing models and contract negotiations.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasts and business performance.
  • Willingness to travel across the UK as required
