Our client, a long-established international clothing manufacturer, requires a Fabric Technologist for its London office to develop and source new fabrics and form part of a multi-functional Menswear team dedicated to the design, development and production of garments for several leading clothing retailers.
Fabric Technologist Responsibilities:
- Working with fabric suppliers to sample or develop fabrics required.
- To ensure fabric sourcing and innovation is in line with our strategic sourcing of garments.
- To ensure fabric developments are cost-effective.
- To ensure all colours required are lab dyed, submitted to the customer, and approved and distributed to relevant factories.
- To discuss and agree on solutions with suppliers if test results are substandard.
- To risk assess new fabrics.
- To ensure all fibre composition testing is complete and appropriate care labels are issued.
- To ensure all technical files are kept up to date and actively work towards achieving ESG / Scope 3 business and customer targets.
Skills and Requirements:
- Educated to degree standard.
- Seven years+ relevant experience of fabric technology in the clothing industry, preferably with a UK-based supplier.
- Experience working with UK retailers and supermarkets, such as Marks & Spencer and Tesco.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- A confident, proactive approach - capable of working effectively in a team under pressure in a demanding, fast paced environment.
- Ability to interact effectively with suppliers and colleagues at all levels.
