Since 1982, CVI Infrared Optics has been manufacturing advanced optical components for high performance optronics systems. We have become the leading experts in manufacturing and integration of large optics from visible, and near infrared, to longwave infrared, that can continuously perform in extreme weather climates and harsh conditions.

Job Purpose

To assist the coating department by using optical technological knowledge to help with production requirements to meet on-time delivery and yield expectations, to stay competitive within the current market and to assist in new product development. The role includes making recommendations for continuous process improvements, monitoring quality, and exhibiting exemplary levels of efficiency. The shifts will be 6 am–2 pm and 2 pm–10 pm, switching each week. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Competently run numerous processes on a minimum of two coating plants in the department, maintaining appropriate paperwork and route sheets.
  • Measure and assess work on the appropriate spectrophotometers.
  • Identify potential coating problems ‘in process’ and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Identify coating defects such as spatter, striae, delamination, lint marks, comet marks, etc., understand possible causes, and know the actions to prevent occurrence.
  • Examine work prior to coating to determine suitability, load optics safely, and maintain cleanliness.
  • Determine and specify the suitability of jigs for coating, taking account of clear aperture, outer dimensions, and jig condition.
  • Select appropriate test pieces to maximize efficiencies and adherence to quality schedules, and measure witness pieces to produce customer copies.
  • Carry out routine preventative maintenance of critical process control features.
  • Identify potential problems with the coating plant or measuring equipment and alert the appropriate support staff.
  • Perform a clean down of the coating chamber, identifying any issues that could cause a failure, and re‑assemble in good working order while observing local health and safety rules.
  • Develop or use sufficient experience and expertise to minimise and gauge the necessity for test runs.
  • Maintain a tidy work area and adhere to guidelines laid down by the HSWE.
  • Understand and adhere to the relevant quality control procedures in accordance with ISO 9002.
  • Read and understand all prints and specifications for optical coatings and check desired specification.
  • Clean various material types.
  • Train colleagues on various aspects of the coating department.
