A well-established manufacturer of specialist automated machinery is looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a design engineer who enjoys developing bespoke machinery and working on technically challenging projects from concept through to completion. The business designs and builds custom automated equipment for a global customer base, offering engineers the chance to work on varied projects and see their designs brought to life on the shop floor.

The Role

  • As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of bespoke machinery and mechanical systems, supporting projects from initial concept through to manufacture and commissioning.
  • You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, production teams, and service engineers to ensure designs are practical, reliable, and meet customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design of bespoke machinery and mechanical systems
  • Producing 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings
  • Supporting projects from concept design through to final build
  • Working with internal teams to resolve design and build challenges
  • Ensuring designs meet performance, safety, and manufacturing requirements
  • Liaising with production teams during machine build and testing
  • Supporting machine commissioning and continuous design improvements
  • Maintaining accurate engineering documentation and design records

Working Hours

Monday - Friday (Days) Early finish on Fridays

Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in mechanical design of machinery or automated equipment
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software
  • Ability to produce detailed manufacturing drawings
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team

Desirable

  • Experience designing special purpose machinery or automation equipment
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, motion systems, or production machinery
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Experience supporting projects from concept through to installation
