We are currently recruiting for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join a well-established and growing manufacturer of specialist CNC machinery and automated steel processing equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a strong CNC, machine tool, laser cutting background who enjoys being out in the field, solving technical problems and working directly with customers.
The role will involve travelling throughout the UK as well as internationally to support a range of highly automated machinery, including CNC drilling and milling machines, automated saws, laser and plasma cutting systems, beam and plate processing machinery, and pipe and tube processing equipment. The successful engineer can be based around the Manchester area or Midlands, with the position involving regular travel to customer sites.
The Role
- Service, maintenance and fault finding on CNC machinery
- Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
- Working with CNC control systems and PLC-controlled equipment
- Fault finding on Beckhoff PLC systems
- Diagnosing issues with servo drives and control systems
- Maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Working on CNC laser cutting equipment
- Supporting drilling, milling and automated sawing machinery
- Working with beam, plate, profile, pipe and tube processing equipment
- Attending customer sites throughout the UK
- International travel when required
- Providing a professional and technically focused service to customers
The machinery incorporates CNC controls, Beckhoff PLCs, servo drives, hydraulics and pneumatics, with additional Beckhoff PLC training available.
The Successful Field Service Engineer
We are looking for an engineer with a strong technical background who is comfortable working independently in a field-based environment. You will ideally have:
- Previous Field Service Engineer, Service Engineer or Commissioning Engineer experience
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
- Experience working with CNC machinery or steel processing equipment
- CNC laser experience
- PLC fault-finding experience
- Experience with servo drives and electrical control systems
- Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
- Experience within machine tools, CNC, automation or industrial machinery
- A minimum NVQ Level 3, apprenticeship or equivalent time-served engineering background
- Flexibility to travel throughout the UK and internationally
- A customer-focused approach and the ability to work independently
