An established engineering services organisation is looking to recruit an experienced Lead Fitter to join its workshop team. This is a hands-on leadership role for a highly skilled mechanical professional with extensive experience working on rotating equipment, particularly centrifugal pumps, motors, and turbines. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring high-quality overhaul and repair work is completed to exacting standards while supporting workshop efficiency and mentoring less experienced engineers.
The Role
As Lead Fitter, you will be responsible for leading workshop-based overhauls of pumps and rotating equipment while ensuring safe working practices and maintaining the highest quality standards. You will work closely with supervisors, engineers, and inspection teams to ensure projects are completed efficiently and on schedule. You will also provide first-line leadership within the workshop, helping to drive team performance, maintain strong health & safety standards, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out overhaul, repair, and assembly work on centrifugal pumps, motors, and rotating equipment.
- Maintain high workshop standards including 5S housekeeping and organisation.
- Support the smooth flow of work and materials within the workshop to meet production targets.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and fitters.
- Work closely with inspection teams to complete reports and resolve quality-related issues.
- Collaborate with supervisors and project engineers to ensure work scopes and quality standards are met.
- Ensure all health & safety procedures are followed and actively contribute to a safe working environment.
- Participate in the investigation and reporting of incidents where required.

About You
- Time-served mechanical engineer / craftsperson.
- Minimum 10 years' experience working with rotating equipment.
- Strong hands-on experience with centrifugal pumps, motors, and turbines.
- Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Able to work independently while supporting and leading others.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Experience supporting or supervising teams in a workshop environment is highly desirable.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work in a workshop environment, including standing for periods when required.
- Eligible for UK security vetting, including Basic Disclosure checks.
