Are you a skilled Electro-Mechanical Engineer looking for a primarily electrical role that is a varied and hands-on position where no two days are the same? Our client is a highly respected manufacturer of precision machinery, supplying specialist equipment to customers across the UK and internationally. Due to continued growth and increasing customer demand, they are looking to recruit a talented and motivated Electro-Mechanical Engineer to join their engineering team based in Cheltenham.

This is a rare and excellent opportunity for a practical engineer who enjoys working across both electrical and mechanical disciplines, taking projects from assembly and build through to commissioning, installation, and customer support.

The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to work on bespoke, high-precision machinery within a professional engineering environment. You'll play a key role in the complete machine build process, working closely with engineering documentation and drawings to ensure equipment is assembled, wired, tested, and commissioned to the highest standards. The position would suit a multi-skilled engineer with an electrical and mechanical skill set, although candidates with a stronger electrical bias and some mechanical experiences are particularly encouraged to apply due to the nature of the work being mostly electrical.

Beyond the workshop, you'll have the opportunity to represent the business at customer sites throughout the UK and occasionally overseas, carrying out installations, commissioning activities, servicing, and technical support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Machine Build & Assembly
    • Mechanical assembly and final build of bespoke machines
    • Working from detailed engineering drawings, assembly instructions, and technical documentation
    • Fitting and aligning mechanical components to exact specifications
    • Assisting in machine modifications and continuous improvement activities
  • Electrical Assembly & Wiring
    • Building electrical control panels and operator consoles
    • Machine wiring in accordance with prepared wiring diagrams and schematics
    • Installation of electrical components including drives, motors, sensors, switches, relays, and control equipment
    • Ensuring all electrical work is completed safely and to a high standard
  • Testing & Commissioning
    • Electrical testing and fault finding during machine build
    • Machine setting, calibration, and performance verification
    • Supporting in-house commissioning activities prior to customer acceptance
    • Diagnosing and resolving electrical and mechanical issues throughout the build process
  • Customer Installation & Service Support
    • Installation and commissioning of machinery at customer facilities throughout the UK
    • Providing technical support and troubleshooting on customer sites
    • Service, maintenance, and repair of company machines
    • Building strong relationships with customers through professional and effective support

Travel requirements include: UK travel approximately once per month, typically involving 2-3 day visits. International travel is expected to be minimal, but may be required when necessary.

We're seeking an enthusiastic engineer who enjoys problem solving, takes pride in their work, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider engineering team.

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised electrical engineering qualification
  • Experience working within a manufacturing, machinery build, automation, special purpose machinery, or industrial engineering environment
  • Good understanding of electrical control systems
  • Strong electro-mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision and using your own initiative
  • Good IT skills, including the ability to complete service reports and documentation
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable Experience

  • Machine tool, special purpose machinery, automation, or capital equipment experience

Why Join?

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a specialist engineering business with an excellent reputation within its sector. You'll be trusted to take ownership of your work, develop your technical skills, and play a key role in delivering complex engineering solutions to customers around the world.

In return, you'll benefit from:
