An established and growing engineering business is seeking two experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineers to lead the delivery of complex, bespoke machinery projects. This is a key role combining technical excellence with team leadership and project oversight.
The Role
This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of full lifecycle design projects while leading and mentoring a multidisciplinary engineering team. You will be responsible for delivering innovative, high-quality solutions from concept through to manufacture and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Management
- Lead and support cross-functional engineering teams
- Set clear objectives and provide ongoing performance feedback
- Promote collaboration and effective communication across departments
- Project Management
- Manage projects from initial concept through to completion
- Coordinate timelines, resources, and budgets across multiple projects
- Ensure delivery to agreed deadlines, cost targets, and quality standards
- Design & Engineering
- Develop detailed designs for complex mechanical systems
- Conduct simulations, feasibility studies, and risk assessments
- Drive design optimisation with a focus on cost and sustainability
- Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation processes
- Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Value Engineering principles
- Produce designs in line with ISO standards
- Collaboration
- Work closely with internal teams including production, electrical/software, quality, and aftersales
- Liaise with external suppliers and partners to resolve technical challenges
- Technical Expertise
- Stay up to date with industry developments and best practices
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed design and project documentation
- Report progress and key updates to senior stakeholders
About You
- HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in bespoke machinery or special-purpose equipment design
- Proven track record in project delivery
- Commissioning and site experience
- Strong SolidWorks skills (concept, layout, and detailed design to ISO standards)
- Effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities

- Hours: 8:30-5:00 (early finish on Fridays)
