Maintenance Engineer
Salary: Up to Β£48,000
Hours: Days, 7:00am - 3:30pm (flexible)
The Opportunity
We are recruiting for a hands-on Maintenance Engineer to join a growing business within the food industry. This is an excellent opportunity to join a small, close-knit operation where you will play a key role in maintaining production equipment, minimising downtime and supporting the continued growth of the business.
With the current engineer preparing for retirement, the successful candidate will benefit from a structured handover and the opportunity to shadow an experienced engineer, ensuring a smooth transition into the role.
As the business continues to expand towards a multi-site operation, there will also be opportunities for further development and career progression.
The Role
Working within a production environment of approximately 20 employees, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a range of production machinery, alongside some general building maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on production machinery.
- Diagnose faults and carry out mechanical and electrical repairs to minimise production downtime.
- Maintain and repair chains, belts, bearings, pumps and valves.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Fault-find and repair sensors, relays, drives and associated control equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot single-phase and three-phase electric motors.
- Assist with general building maintenance, including fire alarm systems.
- Support the safe and efficient running of production equipment.
- Work closely with production colleagues to resolve equipment issues and improve reliability.
- Complete a comprehensive handover with the retiring engineer to gain knowledge of the site, machinery and maintenance requirements.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a practical, proactive Maintenance Engineer with experience working in a food manufacturing or food production environment.
Essential experience
- Previous maintenance engineering experience within the food industry.
- A good understanding of mechanical maintenance, including chains, belts, bearings, pumps and valves.
- Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Electrical fault-finding experience involving sensors, relays, drives and single- and three-phase motors.
A hands-on approach to fault-finding, problem-solving and preventative maintenance.
The ability to work independently and manage maintenance priorities within a small team.
Qualifications: Formal engineering qualifications are not essential. Practical experience, technical ability and a strong understanding of maintenance engineering are the priority.
Training & Development
- Direct support and training from the existing engineer ahead of their retirement.
- A structured handover to develop an understanding of the site's equipment and processes.
- The opportunity to broaden your engineering skills as the business grows.
- Potential for future progression as the company develops into a multi-site operation.
What's on Offer?
- Salary of up to Β£48,000.
- Additional overtime
- Day-shift working, 7:00am-3:30pm, with flexibility
- A stable role within a growing business.
- The opportunity to take ownership of maintenance within a small operation.
- Long-term career development and progression opportunities.
Why Join?
This is an opportunity for an experienced, hands-on engineer to make a real impact in a growing food business. With a retiring engineer providing a knowledge transfer, a varied mechanical and electrical workload, and potential for future progression, the role offers both stability and the chance to develop alongside the company.
