We are looking for a motivated and detailed Graduate Design Engineer to join our client that has 30 years of British manufacturing heritage. With an in-house Design & Development department, backed-up by their manufacturing operation in the same building, they have an unrivalled reputation for design, quality, service and training within their industry. Due to sustained growth, we are recruiting for a Graduate Design Engineer to join their busy and supportive Design & Engineering team.

Role Summary

Working in the design department and reporting to the Lead Design Engineer, the Graduate Design Engineer will assist in the design of new products and the development and enhancement of the existing product suite. Participating throughout the lifecycle of every Globestock product from initial requirements, concept design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing. This role is ideally suited to recent graduates looking for their first role or somebody working towards a relevant engineering qualification.

Essential Functions

  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure designs meet specified requirements and standards.
  • Create detailed designs using CAD software to develop concepts and prototypes.
  • Identify and review relevant product standards to determine compliance requirements of new products.
  • Conduct internal testing of new products against standards to prove concepts and test prototypes.
  • Generate test reports to accurately document results and conclusions of internal tests.
  • Analyse outcomes of internal tests to refine and iterate designs.
  • Create and update technical documentation (user instructions, design reports, etc).
  • Identify and liaise with suppliers to obtain specifications, samples, and prices of components.

Skills & Requirements

  • Hold or be working towards a relevant, formal engineering qualification (HNC, HND, BEng or BSc).
  • Experience in using an industry recognised, 3D design/engineering suite of software (e.g. Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of engineering principles.
  • Ability to analyse complex problems and develop creative solutions.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Excellent attention to detail with an analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Experience of using the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
