Job Purpose: To provide compassionate, child-centred care and support to individuals with varying needs, helping them achieve independence, dignity, and improved quality of life. This role involves working closely with children, their families, and other professionals to deliver tailored care plans within the community, family’s home or Ymestyn centre. To undertake family contact sessions, whereby the candidate will be required to support/supervise sessions and complete well-written reports. Region of support will cover Cardiff and Gwent.

Key Responsibilities as a Support Worker

  • Direct Care and Support:
  • Assist children with daily living activities, including low level personal care.
  • Support clients with mobility, ensuring safe use of aids and adaptations.
  • Administer medication if required and approved by authorities.
  • Assist with meal preparation, feeding, and dietary needs.
  • Transportation.
  • Assist young people with independent living.
  • Emotional and Social Support:
    • Provide companionship and encourage social interactions.
    • Provide respite to carers/parents.
    • Assist clients in accessing community resources, activities, and appointments.
    • Offer reassurance and empathy during challenging times.
  • Household Support:
    • Help with light housekeeping duties, such as laundry and cleaning.
    • Support with shopping and other household errands.
  • Record Keeping and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of care provided, including daily logs and incident reports.
    • Complete family supervision reports.
    • Report any concerns or changes in a client’s condition to the supervisor promptly.
  • Compliance and Training:
    • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and relevant health and safety guidelines.
    • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
    • Respect confidentiality and safeguard client information as per GDPR and safeguarding regulations.

    Person Specification as a Support Worker

    • Essential:
    • Genuine passion for caring for others and improving their quality of life.
    • Experience in working with children with complex/additional needs.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good understanding of safeguarding.
    • Physically able to perform care duties, including manual handling.
    • Reliability, patience, and a positive attitude.
    • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping and reporting.
    • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
    • Minimum NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
    • Good working knowledge of IT software, such as Word, Microsoft Teams.
  • Desirable:
    • Previous experience in a supervising children and families role or similar setting.

    Additional Information

    All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and further training that will be provided by the services. Flexible working hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Not in a position to offer sponsorships.
