THE BUSINESS

Our client is a global logistics and distribution business based in Birtley for over 15 years. They supply various high-tech products and machinery parts to well-known manufacturers including the automotive industry. The role of a Supervisor ensures a high standard of health and safety is maintained. They assign duties and supervise and report upon the work of varying numbers of Team Leaders, Operators and Drivers working in a warehouse environment. They provide effective leadership, communication, motivation, and training/development. They ensure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to and manage performance through an agreed set of Key Performance Indicators (KPI). They ensure that team members are trained in warehouse processes and monitor individual progress.

THE ROLE

  • Stakeholder/Customer: Ensure team awareness of the importance of customer service. Maintain a professional, motivational and customer focussed attitude at all times. Work positively with management, the team and interfacing departments. Ensure the team fully supports any customer requirements to ensure the customer is fully satisfied with the level of service being provided.
  • Staff/People/Team: Actively communicate with Managers and effectively manage day to day tasks and communicate any problems and concerns. Delegate tasks (where appropriate) and set objectives to the three Team Leaders. Ensure Team Leaders and Operators are achieving daily tasks and objectives. Enforce safe working practices and duty of care for team members. Foster a team work ethic by ensuring participation in all team activities. Lead a team of fourteen to perform any duties requested by the warehouse Management team. Ensure equality, diversity and dignity is respected/observed and any contraventions are reported. Ensure the team always maintain a professional and polite attitude. Coach and mentor fourteen staff through continuous professional development and performance management. Support the operation with clear, concise decision making and problem solving.
  • Processes: Monitor tasks/functions and police adherence to Standard Operating Procedures at all times. Agree and implement amendments to SOPs when anomalies have been reported. Actively communicate with staff to effectively handle day to day tasks and communicate any problems or concerns. Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with company Environmental Health & Safety policy. Meet company defined objectives. Manage the ILU Matrix to support the flexibility of the operation.
  • Results: Achievement of daily plan in an accurate/timely manner. Ensure all visual management boards are up to date. Achieve team development objectives and ensure training against the ILU matrix is implemented. Timely and accurate reporting of KPI’s to shift management. Maintain high quality audit results from housekeeping to KPI’s. Ensure that any defects and damages are reported and followed up. Efficiently process customer requirements ensuring all quality expectations are maintained. Meet standards for productivity. Achieve the targets and job standards set out by the Shift Manager.

THE PERSON

You will demonstrate a can-do attitude with a positive attitude to work. Other specifications include:

  • First Aid/Fire Warden qualification.
  • Knowledge of working within a warehouse environment.
  • Experience of leading teams.
  • An understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Aware of manual handling techniques.
  • Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
