We are looking for an experienced SISS Systems Design Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You'll be working in a part of Telent that is dedicated to maintaining the UK wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail and a host of Train Operating Companies.
Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the system engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer's project, you will be responsible for undertaking all technical aspects of projects. This will include survey, design and technical aspects of SISS within a Rail environment.
Typical Deliverables
- Strong experience in system design, survey and technical engineering experience within SISS.
- May be required to lead on creating ideas for new products or services and drawing up plans for a new design.
- Taking ideas from the initial design stage through to the production and/or installations process.
- Drawing up detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
- Using mathematical and scientific skills to create workable, real-world solutions to problems.
- Selecting the appropriate materials for a new product or a new construction.
- Calculating an accurate cost analysis forecast for a project.
- Completing the required technical and regulatory documents.
- Will be required to ensure quality-control tests on a new product/system and overseeing its construction/manufacture, development and deployment.
Responsibilities
- Maintains in depth knowledge of own professional engineering discipline, basic knowledge of related professional engineering disciplines.
- Arranging testing products, systems, software or infrastructure.
- Ensuring projects are completed on-time with the specified budget.
- Maintaining and developing their personal engineering skills.
- Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions.
- Works independently; receives minimal guidance.
- May be required to lead projects or project steps within a broader project or have accountability for ongoing activities or objectives.
- Acts as a mentor for colleagues with less experience.
- Complies with prevailing QEHS requirements associated with the role.
Skill Requirements
- Must have previous technical SISS experience, Engineering, Design and Survey skills.
- Holds the relevant specified/designated Licences/certifications for the discipline/business sector.
- Computer literate, competent with MS Office suite, Word, Excel, etc.
- Working knowledge of the quality standards and processes and regulatory requirements applicable to the designated discipline/business area.
- Competent all-round verbal and written communication skills.
- Fully proficient in AutoCAD/MicroStation and other CAD specified software.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Customer focussed and able to deal with internal and external stakeholders.
- A passion for solving problems and providing workable solutions.
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills with an ability to visualise processes and outcomes.
