Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer
Permanent | Flexible Hybrid working | Equity from day 1
The company:
Our client is a London-based, clean-tech start-up, developing novel hydrogen technology for decarbonisation and increased industrial efficiency.
As part of their expansion plans, they are looking to hire a Senior Controls & Instrumentation Engineer who’s passionate about net-zero missions, excited by innovation, and proactive in its pursuit.
The role:
- Develop concepts and perform feasibility analyses given an incomplete problem definition.
- Lead control system design internally and with third-party design partners, developing the internal control philosophy, development roadmap, and data architecture.
- Identify and specify suitably ranged instrumentation and manage its implementation with appropriate software.
- Gather and articulate needs and constraints from stakeholders, colleagues, and vendors to enable coordination and agreement across stakeholders (subsystems, vendors, or clients) on common interfaces.
- Ensure all applicable and international codes of practice, legislation, and company/client standards and procedures are complied with and seek out standards and track compliance with safety regulations, processes, and/or best practices.
- Offer expert insight in system design reviews and in safety reviews such as HAZOPs and FMEAs.
- Create and maintain system documentation such as Interface Control Documents, System Descriptions, and Requirements.
- Develop and execute integration and test plans focused on requirements verification within programmatic constraints.
- Support engagements through stakeholder engagement, data analysis, and techno-economic modelling.
Requirements:
You will be degree-qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., Electrical, Instrumentation & Control, or Process Engineering) with 6+ years of professional experience in relevant engineering design roles and possess a solid working knowledge of design practices and installation requirements across industries.
You will:
- Have extensive familiarity with UK legislation, standards, and HSE requirements and experience with IEC regulations and all relevant UK standards and specifications.
- Be skilled in testing, checking, and commissioning systems, wiring diagrams, specifically in control side design, and automation software design.
- Understand HV isolations, energisation, and commissioning requirements.
- Be experienced in CE marking requirements, including ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive, and EMC compliance.
- Exhibit strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and team collaboration abilities.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously without losing focus on long-term goals.
- Demonstrate experience in life-cycle development of hardware for safety-critical systems or products.
- Emphasise clear problem definition before selecting a solution.
- Have solid simulation, analysis, and data interpretation skills.
- Be proficient in Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, and SolidWorks CAD.
- Communicate clearly about technical subjects, both in writing and speaking.
It is desirable that applicants have experience in a start-up/scale-up environment, and knowledge of the hydrogen industry, electrolysers, and/or fuel cell technologies is also highly advantageous.#J-18808-Ljbffr
