THE BUSINESS

Westray Recruitment Group are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Mechanical Design Engineer with an entrepreneurial mindset to join our client in the Lancashire area. This role requires a proactive individual who is passionate about engineering and has a keen interest in driving new product development and innovation. Our client has grown significantly over the past four decades. They are rapidly establishing themselves as a worldwide leader in their field.

THE ROLE

  • You will have a strong background in mechanical design, coupled with the ability to develop new concepts from scratch.
  • You can generate innovative mechanical design concepts and solutions from initial idea through to prototype and production.
  • You will create detailed mechanical designs using CAD software, perform simulations, and analyse results to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • You can develop and test prototypes to validate design concepts and make necessary adjustments.
  • You will lead and manage projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget and quality standards.
  • You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and product managers, to integrate mechanical designs into overall product architecture.
  • You will identify and pursue new business opportunities, contribute to strategic planning, and support the commercialization of new products.
  • You will stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve design processes and product offerings.

THE PERSON

  • You need a minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, with a proven track record of developing new products from concept to production.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD), FEA tools, and other relevant engineering software.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively and entrepreneurially.
  • Experience in managing projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Experience in a start-up or entrepreneurial environment, with a demonstrated ability to identify and capitalize on new business opportunities.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in mechanical design and product development.
