Job Title: Civil Engineer Location: Bedford Office Department: Civil Engineering Job Purpose We are looking to expand the Civil Engineering department and are seeking an enthusiastic and driven Civil Engineer with 2–3 years of experience to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a variety of residential and non-residential projects across the UK, supporting developments ranging from small private schemes to large-scale master planning projects. Key Responsibilities * Work on a variety of UK-based projects including residential and mixed-use developments * Liaise with clients, consultants, and local authority officers to ensure effective project delivery * Attend project meetings (with support as needed) * Collaborate with the wider engineering team across disciplines * Manage small project teams and delegate tasks to technicians or apprentices * Use CAD software (Microstation preferred) for design and drafting * Employ drainage and 3D design software (such as Flow and PDS) to model drainage networks and develop road/ground designs * Prepare planning submission packs (Outline, Detail, Full) * Deliver technical design submissions (S38, S278, S104) through to approval * Prepare tender/construction packages for groundworks * Contribute to the design of private on-plot civil engineering works (desirable) * Demonstrate an understanding of the planning process, including supporting documentation such as Flood Risk Assessments Person Specification Knowledge & Skills * Relevant degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent (desirable) * Strong knowledge of UK drainage and flood risk standards * Familiarity with local authority and client technical requirements * Proficiency in: * Microdrainage/Flow * Microstation or AutoCAD * PDS * Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) Experience Proven experience in the preparation of technical submissions (S38, S278, S104) Experience preparing engineering drawings for planning applications (desirable) Familiarity with private plot design and earthworks design (desirable) Demonstrated communication skills and confidence in engaging with clients and third parties Behavioral Competencies Proactive and self-motivated Eager to develop and take on responsibility Capable of managing pressure and adapting to changing project requirements Comfortable working across multiple projects Team-oriented with accountability for individual work Key Performance Indicators Client satisfaction, measured via feedback Successful delivery of projects on time and within budget Active engagement and collaboration across projects Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders Contribution to the continuous improvement of internal processes Salary & Benefits Competitive salary based on experience and responsibilities Employee profit-sharing scheme Flexible working arrangements Pension plan Life assurance Private healthcare cover (after three years) Travel insurance (after three years) CPD support and release days for professional development Bonus day off for your birthday
