The Product Owner will own and prioritise a team backlog, defining the priority for the team to support the roadmap and customer objectives while aligning to the business goals. They are accountable for the gathering, refinement and translation of requirements into the team. Working with stakeholders across the business, they must understand the context of the roadmap to ensure effective requirements elicitation and iteration. While also collaborating across product, design, data, engineering and marketing to capture critical inputs into the requirements, enabling a better outcome for customer and business. The Product Owner will also work closely with the development team to facilitate team ceremonies, provide insight and direction on working practices and support the testing and release of value through the product.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the business and customer context and associated roadmap, to ensure team priorities, activities and backlog are aligned
  • Set the team direction and focus through backlog priorities and sprint goals
  • Engage with business stakeholders to elicit and gather requirements, iterating through feedback as part of refinement
  • Collaborate across product, design, data and marketing to document and agree requirements
  • Refine requirements with the engineering team to develop user stories and acceptance criteria, to support delivery of software that meets intended objectives
  • Facilitate team ceremonies, working closely with team leaders to ensure appropriate workflows are in place
  • Review, manage and refine the team backlog on a regular basis to ensure an up to date, prioritised focused and achievable backlog is in place for the team to work at pace
  • Work with the team to continuously estimate the backlog, informing the broader roadmap and milestones. Identify and support mitigation of any blockers
  • Contribute to discovery activities such as ideation and user testing to better understand the objective of the work and desired outcome, supporting more effective refinement with the team
  • Work closely with the team to support work through the development pipeline, including UAT and release comms
  • Maintain a visible backlog, while communication team progress to the business through show and tells and release comms

Requirements

Essential:

  • Knowledge and experience of agile scrum and kanban methodology and practices
  • Strong business analysis and requirements gathering skills
  • Knowledge of the product lifecycle
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in creating user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Ability to take ownership and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven experience as a Product Owner in a similar agile fast-paced environment
  • Desire to be both data and customer driven in decision-making and prioritisation, utilising available data and insight from customers and competitors
  • Somebody who's comfortable getting into a detailed technical discussion with our team of software developers
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous situations and maintain velocity by removing blockers

Desirable:

  • Scrum Alliance certification
  • SAFE accreditation
  • JIRA and Confluence experience
  • Experience engaging in user research methodologies
  • Familiarity with A/B testing methods
