Engineering Manager ΓΒ£68,000 FMCG Location: Bishops Stortford / Harlow / Stevenage / Ware / Cheshunt area Salary: ΓΒ£68,000 Are you an Engineering Manager who can see beyond the day-to-day firefighting and has the vision to build a stronger, more proactive engineering function? We're working with a leading FMCG manufacturer that is on a journey to transform its engineering operation, moving from a reactive maintenance culture towards a more structured, planned and strategically driven approach. They are now looking for an Engineering Manager who can lead that journey. This is not simply a role focused on keeping the machinery running. It's an opportunity for an Engineering Manager to shape the engineering strategy, develop the team and drive meaningful, long-term improvement across the site.
The role
You'll lead a team of up to 6 direct and 10 indirect reports, taking responsibility for both the day-to-day engineering operation and the longer-term development of the function. Your focus will include:
Developing and delivering the engineering strategic plan
Moving the site from reactive maintenance towards a planned and preventative maintenance culture
Strengthening the PPM strategy and improving CMMS utilisation
Identifying and closing compliance gaps
Developing the capability and skills of the engineering team
Creating structured training and ongoing development plans
Driving engineering standards, accountability and continuous improvement
Improving equipment reliability and reducing repeat failures
Leading engineering projects and managing contractors
Planning and allocating engineering resources effectively
Managing performance against key KPIs including planned maintenance, Health & Safety, quality and engineering performance
Providing strong technical leadership across the engineering function What are we looking for? We're looking for an Engineering Manager who can combine strategic thinking with practical engineering leadership. You'll ideally have:
An electrically biased engineering background with a completed apprenticeship
Experience within FMCG, food or process manufacturing
Strong knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance
Experience with CMMS and maintenance planning
Proven experience leading and developing engineering teams
A track record of identifying gaps and delivering improvement
The ability to develop people and build capability within a team
A structured and strategic approach to engineering management
