The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an experienced Business Development Manager to join a well-established business with over 35 years' experience in the installation, servicing, maintenance and relocation of integrated systems, including conveyors, cranes and automated storage systems. With an established client base across the UK and Europe, this is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious sales professional to take ownership of a new service and maintenance revenue stream and play a key role in its development. This is a hands-on business development role. You will be out meeting customers, visiting sites, identifying opportunities and developing long-term relationships. You will have the freedom to build your own pipeline and generate new business, supported by an experienced engineering and service team.
The Role
- Identify and target new clients and business opportunities
- Develop and grow service and maintenance contracts
- Generate leads and manage the sales process from initial contact through to completion
- Arrange and conduct customer meetings and site visits
- Build strong, long-term relationships with new and existing customers
- Understand customer requirements and identify suitable solutions
- Work closely with engineering, service and project teams
- Support service coordination and project management when required
- Develop existing accounts and identify further commercial opportunities
- Take ownership of your sales pipeline and deliver agreed targets
About You
We are looking for someone who is commercially driven, adaptable and motivated by the opportunity to build something. You will ideally have previous sales or business development experience within the material handling, automation, engineering or a related industry. Experience with any of the following would be highly beneficial:
- Automated storage systems
- Conveyor systems
- Crane systems and installations
- Material handling equipment
- Service and maintenance
- Warehouse automation
- Mechanical handling or engineering
An engineering background would be desirable, but strong industry knowledge, proven sales ability and the right attitude are key. You’ll need to be:
- A confident and engaging communicator
- Commercially focused and results driven
- Comfortable developing new business
- Able to build strong customer relationships
- Highly organised with good planning skills
- Flexible and able to adapt quickly
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership
