Cutlers Hill Surgery is seeking a self-motivated, forward-thinking, and proactive Medical Summariser to join our friendly and highly skilled administrative team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in an established, progressive practice committed to innovation, collaborative working, and delivering high-quality patient care. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate, up-to-date patient records, helping GPs and the wider team provide safe, effective, and timely care. We are moving towards a paper-light environment, and the successful candidate will be central to this transformation. This is a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave and is subject to a DBS check. Interviews will be held on Wednesday 25th March.
Main duties of the job
- Prepare, reorganise, and summarise patient records and correspondence
- Review medical records and produce accurate summaries of patients' medical histories
- Read-code relevant clinical information into the practice clinical system
- Identify higher-risk information requiring clinical input, including safeguarding concerns, following agreed protocols
- Refer any required clinical actions to GPs
- Monitor progress of notes summarising against practice targets
- Support patient call and recall systems
- File and retrieve paperwork as required

Purpose of the Role
The Medical Summariser will play a critical role in ensuring accurate, up-to-date, and clinically relevant patient records within a paper-light, digital-first practice environment. This position involves reviewing, summarising, and Read-coding patient medical records, supporting GPs with correspondence management, and contributing to the smooth running of administrative and clinical systems. The post-holder will work independently and collaboratively, strictly adhering to practice protocols and safeguarding procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Review patient medical records and produce accurate summaries of medical history
- Identify clinically significant information, including high-risk or safeguarding issues, and refer appropriately to clinical staff
- Read-code relevant information into the practice clinical system in line with practice protocols
- Reorganise and prepare records for summarising, including filing and retrieving paperwork
Administrative Support
- Manage incoming correspondence, including hospital letters, patient communications, and reports
- Monitor patient call and recall systems
- Support the administrative team with workflow management to ensure timely completion of tasks
Quality Assurance and Monitoring
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and data integrity
- Monitor progress of notes summarising against practice targets
- Identify areas for improvement in administrative processes and contribute to solutions

Terms and Conditions
