Course Overview: This is a 2 day a week course, 4 hours a day, teaching 10 people in a group at Stevenage Library (referred by the Job Centre) for 8 weeks. Learners would be unemployed and pre-ESOL, so very basic tuition to get them to the stage where they can apply for jobs is the aim. This course will repeat again in September 2026 for another 8 weeks, 2 days a week, 4 hours a day.

Qualifications Required: You must hold TEFL, CELTA, or TESOL. Please do not apply if you do not hold any of these.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Basic English Support: Provide support in speaking, reading, and writing; include conversation sessions to improve general use of English.
  • English for Employment: Teach English and terminology specific to securing and sustaining employment in various sectors (e.g., cleaning, social care, hospitality, warehousing, health care assistants, and hospitality).
  • Employability Basics: Ensure learners comprehend and can understand ID and document requirements, conduct basic job-hunting activities, browse and use job search websites, understand terminology in job adverts, and include conversation sessions to improve general use of English and be understood.
  • CV Creation: Support with CV creation and ensure each learner has a completed CV at the end of the programme.
  • Job Application Support: Help learners apply for jobs, attend and engage in interviews, understand UK workplace etiquette, basic UK employment rights, employment health & safety, and employment-related personal finance (e.g., PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions).
  • Homework Assignment: Set appropriate homework at all stages to help learners consolidate their learning.
