About the role: Custom Pharma is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to support the Head of Engineering in delivering engineering functions across our Hove and Moulsecoomb sites. You’ll lead root cause investigations for engineering-related nonconformances, CAPAs, and change controls, and drive a culture of continuous improvement using DMAIC techniques. You’ll also manage capital projects to upgrade and replace our asset base, deputise for the Head of Engineering when required, and work closely with production and maintenance teams to maximise efficiency and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Head of Engineering to ensure all premises, equipment, and systems comply with current Health & Safety regulations, maintaining documentary evidence as needed.
- Collaborate with production departments to achieve shared goals for output, productivity, and machine efficiency.
- Lead and support maintenance engineers in analysing equipment failures and implementing effective CAPAs.
- Report weekly KPIs and communicate goal achievement to motivate staff within a continuous improvement culture.
- Manage equipment and plant calibration and maintenance programmes.
- Oversee contractors and service providers, ensuring value and safety in all works.
- Manage spares, including ordering and delivery processes.
- Lead and deliver capital projects to upgrade and replace company assets.
- Comply with all Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested by management.
Experience:
- Strong engineering background in a pharmaceutical or similar environment.
- Proven ability to develop teams.
- Understanding of current GMP and HSE requirements.
- Experience delivering regulatory risk assessments (PUWER, LOLER, DSEAR, GSIUR, etc.).
- Maintenance management of manufacturing equipment, plant, and facilities.
Skills & Aptitude:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and coordinating abilities.
- Passion for “right-first-time” processes and root cause analysis.
- Ability to negotiate and present ideas to a wide audience.
- Adaptable, flexible, and hands-on approach.
