London

This is a great opportunity to join our successful national rating team at either Surveyor or Senior Surveyor level. The role is suited to both recently qualified surveyors looking to develop their expertise and experienced rating surveyors with a proven track record in providing rating advice to clients. The individual will play a key role in reducing business rates liability, managing rating assessments, and maintaining strong client relationships.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Devise and implement strategies to reduce clients’ business rates liabilities.
  2. Manage empty rates liabilities and submit relief applications.
  3. Inspect and accurately measure properties for rating valuation purposes.
  4. Review rating assessments based on rental and comparable evidence to determine whether a Rateable Value is excessive.
  5. Prepare and submit high-quality, well-reasoned Check, Challenge, Appeal (CCA) submissions to the Valuation Office Agency (VOA).
  6. Effectively manage and build strong client relationships, providing expert advice and regular updates.
  7. Produce reports, attend and lead client meetings.
  8. Manage workload effectively to meet strict CCA deadlines.
  9. Develop new business opportunities and build internal relationships to maximize cross-selling potential.
  10. Contribute to achieving financial targets and mentoring junior team members (for Senior Surveyors).

Skills & Experience:

  1. Proficient in rating industry software such as Riverlake, Analyse, RatesData, and Calcurate.
  2. Experience in rating valuations and business rates advisory.
  3. Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
  4. Experience in presenting cases at Valuation Tribunal and beyond (for Senior Surveyors).
  5. Up-to-date knowledge of rating legislation and valuation methodologies.
  6. Strong communication, negotiation, and client relationship management skills.
  7. Entrepreneurial approach with the ability to identify and secure new business opportunities.
  8. Strong leadership abilities, including mentoring and supporting junior team members (for Senior Surveyors).
