Overview

Based in the Social Care Response Service, West District Office, 3 Sinclair Street, you will work part time, 30 hours per week. Previous applicants need not apply. If you have any queries regarding this vacancy, please contact Lisa Bowring on or email.

Requirements

  • You will have an SVQ 2 in Customer Care or higher and a Professional Development Award in Tele-healthcare or the ability to achieve this award.

Responsibilities

  • You will assist in providing a 24-hour response service for vulnerable older people, people with physical disabilities, people with mental illness or people with learning disabilities, whose independence in the community is supported by an alarm call system.
  • You will provide a locally based mobile service to Sheltered Housing tenants when full-time Wardens are off duty.

The Individual

  • You will have knowledge and understanding of social work values, community care principles and experience of assisting members of the public who are in stressful situations.
  • Working with computerised systems to input and retrieve data, you will possess good computer/keyboard skills and good written/oral communication skills.
  • You will have the ability to work as team member and the ability to work alone and to use own initiative with minimum supervision and under pressure.
  • You should possess good assessment skills, be able to understand and meet the needs of people living in the community while remaining sensitive, patient and understanding when dealing with vulnerable people.
  • You should be non-judgemental with a caring, pleasant and professional approach, be dependable and reliable with a calm disposition and approachable manner.
  • The ability to work shifts including evenings, weekends and nights and to commit to further study/training is essential.
  • This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
