A market leading regional M&E Contractor are looking for a Mechanical Estimator to join their expanding team in Oxford. The company provides M&E services to a wide range of clients across a variety of sectors including Commercial, Education, Defence, Life Sciences, Industrial, Healthcare, Leisure and Data Centres.
As the Mechanical Estimator you will be key in the pre-construction process, supporting the commercial team in producing accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical building services projects. You will be involved in tender reviews, take-offs, cost planning, and liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure the best value.
You will work within an established M&E estimating team in preparing mechanical estimates up to £10M with typical values between £2-3M, so previous experience is essential.
The Mechanical Estimator will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Preparing accurate and competitive mechanical tenders for a range of building services projects using estimating software packages.
- Conduct take-offs from drawings and specifications.
- Manage the tender process from initial enquiry through to final submission.
- Attend site surveys or tender interviews as necessary.
- Evaluate supplier and sub-contract returns to ensure compliance with the tender specification.
- Maintaining and updating cost databases to reflect current market trends, material prices and labour costs ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
- Liaise with other departments regarding completion of all information as required within the enquiry to support accurate cost planning.
- Provide ongoing assistance to the projects team if requests for the generation of variation costs are received.
- Close liaison with new and existing clients regarding any enquiries received and assigned.
Successful applicants will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Overall knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing and public health) and their installation methods.
- Experience within a similar position as a Mechanical Estimator ideally with project values up to £3m.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- The ability to work under pressure to meet set deadlines whilst managing multiple tenders.
- The ability to plan, co-ordinate and prioritise tenders.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong IT skills using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (desirable).
