Curtis is a full-service international law firm founded in 1830, with around 250 lawyers across 19 offices in the United States, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Central and East Asia. The firm is best known for its representation of sovereign states and state-owned entities, and for its strength in international arbitration, public international law, energy, restructuring and insolvency, and international trade.

Our clients range from governments and sovereign wealth funds to multinational corporates, financial institutions, family-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. The work is genuinely cross-border, and so is the business development that supports it.

About the team

You will join a close-knit business development and marketing team of five, supporting partners and practice groups across the firm's international network. It is a small UK based team with a broad remit, which means real ownership of your areas, direct access to partners, and the scope to shape how things are done rather than inherit a fixed process.

Introducing CRM

Curtis is introducing LexisNexis InterAction+ as its first CRM system. Therefore, this role offers an opportunity to shape the development of the team’s use of CRM to support the business, working with a greenfield site and manage substantive business development activities such as BD pipeline management, targeting, campaigns, pitches.

Key responsibilities of the role

  • Manage bids, tenders and RFPs processes, working with the rest of the BD team.
  • Managing the pitch process (from scoping kick-offs and determining the preferred approach to drafting the pitch).
  • Producing new slides and marketing content for our standardized pitch library.
  • Use CRM insight to identify cross-selling opportunities, map relationships across practices and offices, and support key client and sector programs.
  • Produce responses to directories submissions for recognized publications in the sector (rankings, awards, league tables). Manage response strategies and processes, coordinate their implementation and annual monitoring.
  • Contribute to the updating of all Marketing materials.
  • Work closely with the wider BD and marketing team on shared projects, covering for colleagues where needed in a small team.
  • Build credible working relationships with partners across offices and time zones, influencing senior stakeholders who are time-poor and skeptical of process.

Essential

  • A minimum of three years' business development experience gained in a law firm;
  • Significant experience with pitches, RFPs, tenders, strategic bids and capability statements;
  • Substantial hands-on experience of using a CRM - ideally LexisNexis InterAction+ as a business development user;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks at once;
  • Excellent attention to detail and focus on producing high quality work product;
  • Comfortable working across international offices, cultures and time zones;
  • A commercial mind-set, combining market awareness with an understanding of what is like working with governments;
  • Sound judgement on confidentiality, privacy and client data handling.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with adjacent tools: email marketing platforms (Vuture or similar), event management systems, experience or pitch databases, Power BI or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with International Arbitration and Disputes practices.
  • Experience with procurement portals.
  • Fluency in French or Arabic.
  • Knowledge of utilizing AI tools.
  • Understanding of GDPR and cross-border data privacy requirements.
