We enjoy spirited debate, crazy ideas, and shipping code.
About The Role
As Commercial Counsel, EMEA at Cursor, you’ll lead and scale our commercial legal efforts across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. You’ll be the primary legal partner supporting revenue-generating teams in the region, structuring and negotiating complex commercial agreements while helping Cursor navigate evolving regulatory frameworks. This will be the first dedicated commercial legal hire focused on EMEA. You’ll play a foundational role in building our regional legal strategy, developing scalable contracting processes, and advising on regulatory issues that impact how we sell and operate internationally. You’ll work closely with Sales, Partnerships, Finance, Security, Product, and executive leadership to enable rapid growth while thoughtfully managing risk. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, enjoys owning problems end-to-end, and is excited to build structure in a company scaling quickly across jurisdictions.
What You’ll Do
- Lead negotiation and drafting of a wide range of commercial agreements across EMEA, including SaaS agreements, enterprise customer contracts, reseller and channel partner agreements, strategic partnerships, and vendor agreements.
- Partner closely with GTM leadership to support complex enterprise deals and accelerate deal cycles while balancing risk appropriately.
- Advise on regional regulatory matters, including data protection (GDPR and related regimes), AI-related regulations, technology and consumer laws, and other emerging frameworks impacting our business.
- Collaborate with Security and Product teams on customer-facing terms, DPAs, security addenda, and compliance commitments.
- Support international expansion efforts, including new market entry, local law considerations, and coordination with outside counsel where necessary.
- Develop and implement scalable contracting processes, playbooks, templates, and approval workflows to increase efficiency and consistency across the region.
- Provide practical, business-oriented guidance to cross-functional stakeholders, translating legal complexity into clear, actionable advice.
- Help build and shape Cursor’s global commercial legal function, contributing to long-term strategy, hiring, and best practices.
You may be a fit if
- Qualified lawyer in at least one EMEA jurisdiction (UK or EU preferred), with active membership in good standing.
- 8+ years of relevant legal experience, including time at a leading law firm and/or in-house at a high-growth technology company.
- Significant experience negotiating complex SaaS and technology agreements, particularly with enterprise customers.
- Deep familiarity with GDPR and related European data protection frameworks; experience advising on cross-border data transfers is strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of the legal and regulatory landscape impacting AI, software, and developer tools is a plus.
- Excellent commercial judgment and the ability to balance legal risk with practical business outcomes.
- Experience partnering directly with GTM and cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to operate independently in a high-growth, low-structure environment and build processes from the ground up.
- Clear communicator who can influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment across functions.
