Waterloo - Hybrid Working

Full Time

Fixed Term Contract (12 Months)

Grade 4

At Currys we’re united by one passion: to help everyone enjoy amazing technology. As the UK’s best-known retailer of tech, we’re proud of the service our customers receive – and it’s all down to our team of 25,000 caring and committed colleagues. Working as one team, we learn and grow together, celebrating the big and small moments that make every day amazing.

The Portfolio Capacity Planning Manager is responsible for shaping and influencing how scarce change and technology capacity is deployed across Currys’ transformation portfolio. The role partners closely with senior leaders to challenge demand, prioritisation, and resource allocation decisions, ensuring capacity is aligned to the highest value outcomes for the business. The role provides insight, facilitation, and decision support rather than solely operational planning, acting as a trusted advisor to ExCo, senior technology leadership, and portfolio owners.

Senior Stakeholder Engagement & Decision Support

  • Act as a trusted partner to GLT, senior Technology leaders, and Portfolio Sponsors on capacity, demand, and prioritisation decisions.
  • Provide clear, evidence based insights to support trade off decisions where demand exceeds available capacity.
  • Proactively challenge assumptions, sequencing, and resourcing requests to ensure focus remains on the highest value initiatives.
  • Present capacity scenarios, risks, and options in clear, plain English terms suitable for senior decision making forums.

Portfolio Capacity Management & Planning

  • Develop and maintain portfolio level capacity models covering both business and delivery resources across Technology and transformation initiatives.
  • Forecast future demand and capacity impacts based on delivery roadmaps, strategic priorities, and emerging demand.
  • Identify structural capacity constraints and systemic risks, escalating early with clear mitigation options.
  • Track and monitor demand vs capacity trends, highlighting where plans are no longer realistic or deliverable.

Facilitation of Challenge & Prioritisation Sessions

  • Design and facilitate structured workshops and working sessions with senior leaders to:
  • Challenge demand and prioritisation.
  • Test affordability, deliverability, and sequencing assumptions.
  • Agree trade offs where demand exceeds capacity.

Support portfolio level prioritisation and re sequencing decisions during quarterly and annual planning cycles, including 3 Year Plan and in year replanning. Ensure discussions are grounded in data while enabling constructive challenge and collective ownership of decisions.

Skills & Capability Management

  • Develop and maintain a Technology skills and capability matrix, covering demand, supply, and critical skill dependencies.
  • Use the capability matrix to inform capacity planning, recruitment priorities, sourcing decisions, and sequencing of work.
  • Work with Technology leadership and HR to identify skill gaps, pinch points, and opportunities for upskilling or redeployment.
  • Ensure capacity discussions consider capability fit, not just headcount availability.

Governance, Reporting & Tooling

  • Own portfolio level capacity reporting and insights using Planview and other agreed tooling.
  • Produce clear capacity views, heatmaps, and scenario outputs for governance and leadership forums.
  • Support continuous improvement of demand and capacity governance, ensuring data quality and decision confidence.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Significant experience in portfolio management, capacity planning, PMO, or workforce planning within complex, large scale change or technology environments.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, including facilitating challenge and prioritisation discussions.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights and choices for executives.
  • Experience building and using skills or capability frameworks to inform resourcing, sequencing, or investment decisions.
  • Confident facilitator, able to hold constructive tension and challenge senior leaders appropriately.
  • Experience using portfolio and resource management tools (Planview preferred) and translating outputs into meaningful decision support.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong bias for clarity and simplicity.
  • Evidence of training or certification in Planview and Power BI (desirable).
