The Senior UX Architect plays a central role in shaping and delivering user experiences that are intuitive, inclusive, and aligned with both customer needs and business goals. Reporting to the Senior UX Manager, this role is responsible for managing the end-to-end UX design process across key digital journeys, translating insight and requirements into user-centred design solutions that improve the customer experience and deliver value to the business.
As a champion of best practice design and customer-led thinking, the Senior UX Architect works closely with cross-functional teams across digital, product, content, and development to ensure experiences are consistent, effective, and continually optimised. The role combines hands-on UX delivery with design oversight and mentoring, helping to drive quality, consistency, and innovation across everything we create. The designer confidently chooses the correct approach, effectively communicates rationale, and defends methodology and design decisions with business stakeholders.
The Senior UX Architect is expected to be proactive in driving improvement, managing expectations, and ensuring holistic thinking is applied across all work, constantly considering the end-to-end customer journey. The role also supports the Senior UX Manager through contributing to team planning, design standards, and the ongoing development of our UX maturity. This includes running meetings, leading discussions, driving actions forward, and taking ownership where needed to ensure momentum and clarity.
Role overview:
- Own the end-to-end UX design process for key digital journeys, translating insight, business requirements, and customer needs into effective user-centred solutions.
- Produce high quality UX deliverables including: user research, UX requirements, journey maps, wireframes, prototypes, and interaction designs that are intuitive, inclusive, and accessible.
- Work collaboratively with product owners, UI designers, developers, content designers, analysts and wider stakeholders to shape experiences from concept through to delivery.
- Generate qualitative and quantitative insight by conducting user research and using data to inform solutions and influence and validate design decisions.
- Confidently present insight and recommendations to squads and stakeholders to influence strong customer focused outcomes.
- Lead and facilitate workshops with project teams and stakeholders to align understanding and drive progress.
- Apply UX best practices, design principles, and accessibility standards consistently across all work.
- Communicate design ideas and rationale clearly, advocating for customer needs and championing user first thinking.
- Run usability testing and continuous optimisation through iteration, A/B testing, and performance analysis.
- Mentor and support junior UX designers, providing constructive feedback and helping to build capability within the team through peer reviews.
- Contribute to the wider UX function by delivering our UX strategy, supporting planning, improving ways of working, and strengthening the overall design culture.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Skills:
- Expert knowledge of UX design, with a strong understanding of User Centred Design and the Double Diamond process.
- Proficient in a wide range of user research and testing methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative, across moderated and unmoderated environments.
- Advanced user of wireframing, visual design, and prototyping tools such as Figma, Axure, Sketch, and InVision.
- Proficient in designing test plans, building and running user tests and analysing and presenting results using platforms like UserTesting, User Zoom, Maze, Userlytics etc.
- Experienced in using data and insight to inform and justify design decisions.
- Skilled in creating information architecture and translating user and business requirements into clear, actionable UX deliverables.
- Strong visual design capability, applying best practice principles to ensure solutions are user centred, inclusive, and accessible.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of relevant UX design experience.
- A portfolio that demonstrates a strong UX process and how it has led to successful, user loved products.
- Experience defining design principles and establishing best practices.
- Solid understanding of inclusive design and accessibility standards.
- Experience designing within brand style guides and established design systems.
- Working understanding of front end development (desirable).
- Familiarity with the UX Double Diamond process, as well as agile and lean methodologies.
- Highly articulate, with the ability to tell compelling stories, pitch ideas, and influence design decisions in a way that resonates with different audiences.
- Strong stakeholder management skills across all levels and functions.
- Driven, curious, and motivated, with a passion for design thinking and emerging UX trends.
- Capable of coaching others and providing clear design direction.
