Currie & Brown is looking for a quantity surveyor for our Scotland office to work on a wide variety of mechanical & electrical or data centre projects. The successful candidate will support project leaders in delivering a high standard of day-to-day service, achieving successful outcomes for clients, capturing and sharing knowledge across projects, and reinforcing our reputation as a preferred service provider. Currie & Brown is committed to career development and expects the successful candidate to progress rapidly to senior level and beyond, managing all aspects of their own commissions.

Responsibilities

  • Applying value management techniques at the outset of a project
  • Supporting and managing estimating and cost planning activities, including taking ownership of and presenting the final cost plans and overall development budgets
  • Managing and quality checking Bill of Quantities and associated tender documentation production
  • Supporting and managing the procurement process, ensuring that all stages (including pre-qualification, enquiry, analysis, selection and contract preparation) are performed effectively
  • Ensuring that cost checking and valuation work is managed effectively
  • Producing accurate monthly post-contract cost reports and presenting them to the client
  • Undertaking value engineering and lifecycle costing
  • Negotiating and concluding final accounts
  • Taking a lead role in interfacing with the clients’ construction teams and other consultants at all project stages
  • Supervising and mentoring junior and trainee members of the team

Qualifications and attributes

  • BSc in quantity surveying or equivalent
  • Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) would be ideal
  • Pre and post-contract experience
  • Good technical writing, client-facing and communication skills (both internal and external)
  • Well-organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, well-disciplined and commercially astute
  • Ability to run projects with minimal supervision and attend project meetings independently
  • A team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful and flexible, with the ability to work on own initiative
