Passion for health promotion, exercise, and sport. Support and expand the School’s research and community programming activity. Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis until June 2028. Base salary range: Level B, $118,150 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The School of Human Sciences is a large multi-disciplinary School with research and teaching focused on better understanding what it is to be human—our structure, function, development, genetics, health, adaptation, performance, and evolution. UWA recently ranked 34th in the world for Sports-Related Subjects in the 2026 QS rankings. As the successful appointee, you will work within the Psychology of Active, Healthy Living (PAHL) Group. The PAHL Group works with researchers, students, industry, government, and the non-profit sector, and is committed to exercise / health research and community health promotion programs that achieve real-world impact.

About the opportunity

  • Undertake independent teaching and research in the areas of sport, exercise and health psychology, including motivation and behaviour change.
  • Contribute to teaching, research and service within the Department, the School of Human Sciences and relevant research groups (including Psychology of Active, Healthy Living).
  • Develop a productive research profile, contribute to the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching portfolio, and engage in service and outreach activities that enhance the reputation of the School and the University.

About you

  • PhD in an academic field relevant to the discipline or other higher professional qualifications appropriate to their discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver innovative teaching approaches, assessment and materials for units and courses with evidence of curriculum development and teaching activity that supports an exceptional student experience.
  • A demonstrable track record in excellence in research evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles published in high quality journals, and a demonstrable emerging track record of successful competitive funding application.
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful supervision or co-supervision of HDR students, relative to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated commitment to research and community programming that generates real-world impact with the ability to generate productive research and community partnerships and work with diverse groups.
