The Candidate: This role would suit a proactive Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong foundation in CAD design and experience working on aerospace or high-performance systems. You may be from a mechanical, manufacturing, or thermal design background, with a desire to work in a multidisciplinary, cutting-edge R&D environment. A passion for designing practical, testable hardware and a hands-on approach to design validation and prototype development will be key to success.

The Role: An experienced Mechanical Design Engineer is required to join a multi-disciplinary team developing innovative, high-speed air vehicles. This includes research and development culminating in a full-scale flight test. You will support the mechanical design of ground and flight test hardware using CAD tools, with a strong focus on thermal/mechanical part design and system integration.

Duties:

  • Perform CAD-based mechanical design, define product tolerances and drawings, and support manufacturing of prototype aerospace vehicle structures.
  • Support FEA, heat transfer, and CFD analyses under flight conditions.
  • Validate design tools, optimise assembly procedures, and track aerospace structure development.
  • Act as an interface across teams, demonstrating a practical design mindset and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Proficiency in CAD software.
  • Understanding of aerospace engineering and mechanical/thermal design of high-speed structures.
  • Knowledge of materials science, particularly high-temperature metallics.
  • Experience in mechanical CAD design for thermal and mechanical loads.
  • Strong grasp of cross-discipline engineering concepts (eg manufacturing, analysis, product definition).

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience using Siemens NX or Catia V5.
