For the Accounts Manager position, you will be ACA or ACCA qualified (or QBE) with at least 1 year of recent post-qualification experience. You will be confident managing a client portfolio independently, delivering tax and advisory services, and supporting more junior team members.
For the Junior Manager position, you will be minimum AAT Level 4 qualified, ideally studying towards ACA or ACCA, and looking to move into a role involving partial client management and team support. You will have practical experience in accounts, VAT, and tax return preparation, and be ready to take more ownership.
In both cases, you will need to be highly organised, proactive, and confident liaising with clients. Strong software and communication skills are also key.
The Role: Accounts Manager or Junior Manager (Dependant on candidates' experience). This role offers flexible working, ongoing development, and the opportunity to support a wide portfolio of sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies. The Accounts Manager acts as the main contact for client portfolios, and the Junior Manager assists with accounts prep, client queries, and junior supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Accounts Manager: Plan and review accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies. Send final accounts to clients and prepare the partner for client meetings. Provide tax advice across income, corporation, and capital taxes. Manage a portfolio of clients, including billing and workflow planning. Prepare and review VAT and corporation tax returns. Deliver advisory services (eg Making Tax Digital, systems support, tax planning). Prepare management and financial accounts. Perform forecasting and manage work in progress. Deal with daily client correspondence and emails. Contribute to business development activity. Coach and develop junior team members.
- Junior Manager: Prepare accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies. Take ownership of client files from start to near-final stage for review. Provide accurate support and advice to clients, resolving account-related queries. Maintain books and records; prepare and submit VAT returns. Handle corporation and personal tax returns. Liaise with HMRC where required. Build and maintain strong relationships with both new and existing clients. Supervise junior team members and assist with their learning and development. Complete accurate weekly timesheets.
Essential Requirements:
- Accounts Manager: ACA or ACCA qualified or Qualified by Experience. Minimum 1-year post-qualification experience in practice. Strong tax knowledge and experience with client portfolio management. Proficient in Sage, QuickBooks, Xero, and CCH. Excellent communication, organisation, and spreadsheet skills. Confident mentoring junior staff and handling client-facing responsibilities.
- Junior Manager: Minimum AAT Level 4 qualified; ideally studying ACA/ACCA. Practical experience in accounts prep, tax returns, and VAT. Familiar with Sage, QuickBooks, Xero; CCH experience desirable. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage workload and priorities. Some experience supervising or mentoring junior colleagues.
Desirable (Not Essential): Capital gains or tax enquiry experience. Involvement in advisory or planning work. Familiarity with cloud accounting systems and client training.
