We’re delighted to be supporting a well-established healthcare organisation in Oxfordshire to recruit a Payroll Senior Officer to join their HR team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys taking ownership, improving systems and ensuring payroll accuracy in a busy and rewarding environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a high-quality payroll and pensions service, while supporting process improvements and providing expert advice to colleagues across the organisation.
The Payroll Senior Officer Role
- Planning, managing and processing payroll to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time
- Handling complex payroll calculations and ensuring compliance with HMRC legislation and statutory requirements
- Maintaining payroll records, including starter/leaver documentation and pension data, ensuring strong data governance and confidentiality
- Monitoring compliance with payroll legislation, tax regulations, statutory payments and pensions
- Identifying potential risks or issues and recommending corrective actions where required
- Acting as a key point of contact for payroll queries, providing advice and guidance to managers and employees
- Supporting training, knowledge sharing and induction activities within the team
- Contributing to payroll system improvements and process enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy
- Producing and analysing payroll data and reports to support organisational decision-making and compliance
The Payroll Senior Officer Candidate
We’re looking for a payroll professional who combines technical expertise with strong organisational and communication skills.
Essential skills and experience:
- Significant experience of working within a busy payroll or pensions environment
- Experience using computerised payroll systems and managing complex payroll processes
- Knowledge of HMRC legislation, payroll regulations and statutory payments
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet strict deadlines
- Strong communication skills with experience handling queries and correspondence from staff and stakeholders
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and payroll systems
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths
Desirable:
- Previous NHS payroll or pensions experience
- Knowledge of Sage Payroll
- Understanding of NHS Pension Scheme regulations
- Holding or working towards a CIPP payroll or pensions qualification
