We are seeking an experienced and driven Head of Contracting & Performance to join a growing healthcare organisation in the West Midlands. This is a pivotal senior leadership role responsible for overseeing organisational performance, NHS contract management, and service delivery across a diverse healthcare portfolio. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will work closely with operational, finance, clinical, and executive teams to ensure contractual compliance, optimise performance, and support the delivery of high-quality patient services.

The Role

As Head of Contracting & Performance, you will lead the organisation's approach to contract management, performance monitoring, and commissioner engagement, ensuring services are delivered in line with contractual requirements, national policy, and organisational objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the management and delivery of NHS contracts across the organisation.
  • Monitoring organisational performance against contractual, operational, and quality targets.
  • Ensuring compliance with the NHS Standard Contract and relevant commissioning requirements.
  • Developing robust performance reporting frameworks and management information to support decision-making.
  • Building and maintaining productive relationships with commissioners, partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Identifying performance risks and implementing improvement plans where required.
  • Supporting contract negotiations, variations, and service development opportunities.
  • Working collaboratively with operational and clinical teams to improve service delivery and patient outcomes.
  • Providing expert advice on commissioning, contracting, and performance management matters.
  • Leading and developing the Contracting and Performance function to ensure continuous improvement and high levels of service delivery.

About You

We are looking for a highly motivated and commercially aware healthcare professional with a strong understanding of NHS contracting, performance management, and stakeholder engagement.

Essential Experience

  • Minimum of five years' experience within NHS contracting and/or performance management.
  • Detailed knowledge of the NHS Standard Contract and current NHS commissioning landscape.
  • Experience managing complex contracts, performance frameworks, and service delivery requirements.
  • Proven ability to manage projects, teams, and multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective relationships with commissioners and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to interpret complex performance data and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience supporting organisational performance improvement initiatives and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with confidence presenting to senior leaders and external partners.
