Overview

Artist Open Call for the second Scars of Gold campaign. This major campaign brings together art, photography, interviews and health awareness to spotlight inequalities in health using art. Inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, the campaign amplifies the strength borne of scars using gold. The campaign shares the voices of 100 people facing life‑changing health conditions at a young age. The voices were interviewed by charity founder Dr. Liz Murray and featured in a podcast, with professional photography.

In the inaugural campaign, 100 artists from across the UK produced artworks in a range of media, capturing strength, hope and the essence of living with health challenges. The campaign ran online for 12 months, concluding with a 10‑day exhibition and 5 days of health talks. It captured over 160 health topics, attracted international followers, and successfully auctioned artworks to fundraise for the charity and cover artists’ costs.

Mortal And Strong is a UK charity providing centralized support and education for anyone facing a life‑changing health condition at a young age. The second season will again spotlight health inequalities, expanding to all genders, all affected individuals, and carers.

Artists will receive 50% of the auction proceeds to cover production costs, or may opt to donate 100% to the charity. Examples of your existing work may be submitted for reference.
