A day in the life of a Team Leader at Cura Care UK.

Location: Northeast England (predominantly South of Tyne)

Hours: Part-time, covering 08:00–17:00 Monday–Sunday between two Team Leaders, with an expectation of alternate weekend working.

Rate of pay: £14.65 per hour (FTE £32,000 per annum for 42h/pw)

Responsible to: Registered Manager

Job Purpose: To provide operational leadership and supervision to staff delivering person-centred, strength-based support to adults with learning disabilities, autism, and trauma. The Team Leader will oversee rota management, staff performance, and service continuity, ensuring compliance with Cura Care UK's quality framework and CQC standards, while being a visible point of contact for staff and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Supervision
    • Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, and supervision to support workers.
    • Conduct regular supervision sessions, spot checks, and observations to ensure high standards of care and compliance.
    • Lead team meetings, promote reflective practice, and support staff wellbeing.
    • Support the induction and competency sign-off of new staff.
    • Maintain a visible presence to support staff, individuals, and families.
  • Rota Management & Workforce Planning
    • Prepare and manage staff rotas to ensure safe, consistent coverage.
    • Respond to short-notice absences or emergencies by redeploying staff or stepping in when necessary.
    • Ensure appropriate skill mix and continuity for each individual supported.
    • Use electronic systems to record attendance, shifts, and updates accurately.
  • Quality, Safety & Governance
    • Monitor daily records, MAR charts, and risk assessments for accuracy and compliance.
    • Ensure care delivery meets Cura Care UK's policies and CQC Fundamental Standards.
    • Participate in audits, quality reviews, and incident investigations; contribute to improvement actions.
    • Support the Registered Manager in preparing reports for audits, inspections, and governance reviews.
  • Person-Centred & Trauma-Informed Practice
    • Ensure every individual's care plan and risk assessment reflects their communication needs, sensory profile, and trauma history.
    • Embed sensory and environmental adjustments (e.g., calm lighting, low-stimulation environments, predictable routines) into daily support.
    • Promote dignity, choice, and empowerment in every interaction.
    • Support positive risk-taking and skill development.
    • Act as first responder to emergencies (e.g., health crises, behavioural incidents, or staffing issues).
    • Provide on-the-spot leadership, ensuring safety and immediate reporting.
    • Follow escalation protocols and liaise with professionals, families, and management as required.
    • Participate in the on-call rota if applicable.
    • Identify opportunities for improvement in service delivery, team performance, and communication.
    • Contribute to service development meetings and share learning from audits and incidents.
    • Support staff to achieve qualifications and maintain CPD records.
    • Model professional values and promote Cura Care UK's mission and principles.

Person Specification:

  • Experience supporting adults with learning disabilities, autism, mental health conditions and/or trauma. Personally, or professionally.
  • Minimum Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).
  • Supervisory or team-leading experience.
  • Strong understanding of CQC standards, safeguarding, MCA & DoLS.
  • Excellent communication, IT, and organisational skills.
  • Flexible and calm under pressure; able to respond to emergencies.
  • Working towards Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification.
  • Knowledge of PBS or trauma-informed care approaches.
  • Experience liaising with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience supporting people with forensic or complex trauma backgrounds.
  • Experience contributing to CQC inspections or audits.
